Food Processing Industries Minister Meets Sir James Bevan, High Commissioner UK

Sir James Bevan, UK High Commissioner called on Minister Food Processing Industries Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal here yesterday and both shared with each other various measures that India shall adopt to take forward the Food Processing Industries to the next level. 

Smt. Badal sharing goals set for the next few months said “food processing has immense potential in the country particularly to boost the economy especially rural economy and therefore goal for next few months would be to create a food map of India, so that both the government and the industries understand what is target area and what need to do”. 

Minister said that to revolutionize food processing in the country at farm level, India has to take a quantum leap and adopt most practical model at policy level where the husband who works in the farm, woman who works at the processing unit and together the family markets the processed food. 

UK High Commissioner listed out certain priorities of his government in supporting food processing initiative in India. Mr. Bevan informed Minister that soon a Business Delegation shall also be coming for Business to Business cooperation and UK could help India in arresting food wastage and skill development. Smt. Badal welcomed the cooperation by the British and stated that she would look forward to more stronger cooperation between the two countries. 

Minister also met representatives of the Indian Rice Millers Associations and listened to the concerns of the rice millers. 

Later Mr. Venktesh Kini, President, South West Asia Coca Cola met the Minister and apprised her of his company’s forthcoming investment of US $6 Billion into food beverages all over India. Smt. Badal asked Mr. Kini to diversify into the field of fruit juices also. Mr. Kini assured the Minister that Coca Cola would diversify into fruit based beverages in a big way.

खाद्य प्रसंस्‍करण उद्योग मंत्री श्रीमती हरसिमरत कौर बादल ने ब्रिटेन के उच्‍चायुक्‍त सर जेम्‍स बीवन से कल मुलाकात की। खाद्य प्रसंस्‍करण उद्योग को भारत में विकास के अगले स्‍तर पर ले जाने के लिए दोनों के बीच बातचीत हुई। श्रीमती बादल ने अगले कुछ महीनों के लिए अपने लक्ष्‍यों के बारे में बताया कि खाद्य प्रसंस्‍करण क्षेत्र में भारतीय, विशेषकर ग्रामीण अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था के तीव्र विकास के लिए अपार संभावनाएं हैं। उन्‍होंने बताया कि अगले कुछ महीनों में भारत का खाद्य नक्‍शा तैयार किया जाएगा ताकि दोनों देशों की सरकारें और उद्योग लक्षित क्षेत्रों और इसकी आवश्‍यकताओं को समझ सकें। 

मंत्री ने कहा कि देश में कृषि के स्‍तर पर खाद्य प्रसंस्‍करण में क्रांति लाने के लिए भारत को एक लम्‍बी कूद लेनी होगी और नीति स्‍तर पर व्‍यवहारिक मॉडल को अपनाना होगा जहां पति खेतों में काम करता है, महिला प्रसंस्करण इकाई में काम करती हैं और पूरा परिवार प्रसंस्करित खाद्य पदार्थों की बिक्री में भूमिका निभाता है। 

ब्रिटेन के उच्चायुक्त ने भारत में खाद्य प्रसंस्करण इकाईयों को मदद देने के लिए अपनी सरकार की कुछ प्राथमिकताओं की सूची पर बात की। श्री बीवन ने मंत्री को बताया कि जल्द ही व्यापार में एक दूसरे के सहयोग के उद्देश्य से व्यापारिक प्रतिनिधिमंडल भारत आ रहा है। श्री बीवन ने प्रस्ताव दिया कि ब्रिटेन खाद्य कचरे के निपटान और कौशल विकास के क्षेत्र में भारत की मदद कर सकता है। श्रीमती बादल ने ब्रिटिश उच्चायुक्त द्वारा दिये गये सहयोग के प्रस्ताव का स्वागत किया और दोनों देशों के बीच सहयोगात्मक संबंध के और भी मजबूत होने की उम्मीद जताई।
