National Commission for Minorities Expresses Shock and Pain on Bodhgaya Incident

The National Commission for Minorities has passed a resolution expressing shock and deep pain on the assault in the holy places in Bodhgaya. In a resolution passed by the Chairman, National Commission for Minorities Mr. Wajahat Habibullah and the four other Members; Mr. Vinod Sharma, Mr. K.N. Daruwalla, Dr. Ajaib Singh and Mr. T.N. Shanoo in New Delhi today, the NCM has said that Bodhgaya is not only revered among the Buddhists in India but across the world. The resolution says that NCM regards this “as among the most sacred sites for all Indians, whatever their denomination. It is from this location that sprang the Lord Buddha’s message of karuna, a mainstay of India’s civilisation throughout the centuries through theteachings of Lord Mahavira Vardhaman, St Thomas the Apostle, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliyah and Guru Nanak Devji, and revivified in our times by the Father of the Nation in his message of Ahimsa.”

The Commission therefore stands with the nation in expressing its deep sympathies particularly to the Buddhist community, and to the citizens of Bihar, but also appeal to those in authority to ensure that those responsible for this sacrilege are brought to account under the full authority of the Constitution and the law, in the shortest possible time.
