Smt. Santosh Chowdhary takes over as Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare

Smt. Santosh Chowdhary has taken over as the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi today. Smt. Chowdhary is the Member of Parliament from Hoshiarpur Constituency of Punjab.

Speaking to media, Smt. Chowdhary said, “I shall try to implement all schemes of the UPA Government relating to health sector for the benefit of the people as the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare.”

Born on 5thOctober 1944 at Sanawar, Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, Smt. Chowdhary was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Phillaur Constituency of Punjab in 1992. She was elected again from the same Constituency in 1999. She was elected to the Lok Sabha from Hoshiarpur Constituency in 2009.

Smt. Chowdhary was the Chairperson, Punjab Public Service Commission (1980-86); Member, Punjab Public Service Commission (1975-80); All India Congress Committee (A.I.C.C.), Central Election Authority; A.I.C.C. Introspection Committee; Central Advisory Committee for N.C.C. and Civil Supply and Public Distribution; Syndicate Member, Panjab University; Senate Member, Panjab University and Non-official Director, Punjab & Sind Bank.

Smt. Chowdhary was General Secretary, Mahila Congress, Punjab in 1986. She was Vice-President, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee; Vice-President, All India Mahila Congress; General Secretary, Mahila Congress, Punjab. She was also Member, Panel of Chairmen, Lok Sabha; Convenor, Committee on Official Language; Member, Committee on Railways; Member, Central Advisory Committee; Executive Member, Congress Party in Parliament (Two terms); Member, Committee on Railways; Member, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled andTribes;Member, Committee on the Empowerment of Women and Chairperson, National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, Government of India (MOS) during 2004-2009.
